Henrietta Rose-Innes

Biographical info

Henrietta Rose-Innes is a Cape Town-based novelist and short-story writer. She is the author of two novels published by Kwela Books, Shark’s Egg and The Rock Alphabet, and has edited a South African miscellany, Nice Times!. In 2008 she won the Caine Prize for African Writing for her story “Poison”. In 2007, she was awarded the 2007 SA PEN award, and was also shortlisted for the Caine in that year.

The Rock Alphabet has been translated into Romanian. A compilation of short pieces, translated into German, was published in September 2008 as Dream Homes: Schnappschüsse und Geschichten aus Kapstadt.

Her short stories have also been anthologised in, among other publications:

Henrietta also teaches creative writing at the University of Cape Town’s Creative Writing MA course, and online at the SA Writers’ College and the NZ Writer’s College.
