Anchien Troskie

Biographical info

It’s me, Anna (Dis ek, Anna) was published under Troskie’s pseudonym, Elbie Lötter in 2005. The Afrikaans edition has sold more than 50 000 copies, and the English edition more than 15 000 copies.

Allow me to introduce myself:

I was born in 1968, in the Free State, and matriculated in 1986, with Kringe in ’n bos by my side. I have been married for nineteen years, and have two beatiful children. We live in the Eastern Cape. Aside from from general chores, I occupy myself with crafts – scrapbooking, embroidery, knitting; and at night, I obstinately write in the coldest room in the house – a room that no one else wanted to use and which I now proudly refer to as my “office”. I am an ordinary person who laughs, cries, gossips, and who sometimes has to lie. I hate any form of chores, I hate it when I am lied to, hate raw meat and am petrified of snakes. I get angry easily and am very impatient. I love wine, but luckily love my husband and children more. The smell of a new (or old, for that matter) book, the slaty smell of the ocean, soft, drenching rain, coffe and pancakes – is there anything better? One of my biggest fears, and there are many, is that I won’t have enough time to see all the stories in my head in print. That’s me, Anchien Troskie, woman, wife to my husband, mother to my children, housekeeper to everyone, financial manager of the family, free taxi service to the kids and now author.
